African Green Revolution Forum | StarTimes Helps Digital Development of African Agriculture 2019-09-11 00:00:00   source:

Recently, the 10th African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) was held in Accra, Ghana. Themed in “Grow Digital: Leveraging Digital Transformation to Drive Sustainable Food Systems in Africa.”,  the forum invited more than 2300 political figures from various countries and representatives from all walks of life, including Togo’s president Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou, Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente, as well as many ministers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Finance, central bank governors, leaders of global and regional development organizations, industry leaders and major non-governmental organizations representatives.

Zhang Junqi, deputy general manager of the Overseas Business Department of StarTimes, spoke at the AGRF Forum 2019 to propose a plan to disseminate advanced agricultural knowledge to remote rural areas in Africa in conjunction with the satellite TV equipment of the “Access to Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages” project.

Zhang Junqi said in his speech: "As a localized media group, StarTimes has the responsibility to provide a platform for the promotion of science and education content throughout Africa. This is also the reason why we cooperate with non-profit organizations such as AGRA and plan to broadcast agricultural-related science videos in Africa. These videos will be localized according to the actual situation of agricultural production in various countries and broadcasted in local languages. To maximize the practical role of such public-welfare cooperation, StarTimes will also jointly carry out offline training with government departments and partners, such as conducting on-site seminars focusing on the promotion of agricultural technology in the public areas of the “Access to Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages” project village, ensuring that the audiences who are also local agricultural producers grasp the knowledge and truly benefit from such contents.

Zhang Junqi also said that the StarTimes expects extensive cooperation with those agricultural content producers, hoping jointly create a rich and effective promotion system and further advance the digital development of agriculture in Africa.
